I've heard buzz that Chicago is going to put out a new album this year. Any thoughts or news about it? What kind of stuff would you like to see on it?

Permalink Reply by Jimmy Fuccello on January 17, 2012 at 3:31pm I would love to see some of Jason's solo stuff that he never released that he put on myspace like "Spanish Angel," I remember, Flatts Shack and many others. Also Keith has a lot of great solo rockers with horns like "Isn't that the way love goes" and Sulvan Creek. I would love to see more hard rock on this album like Keith's Rockin' Around the christmas tree, some great Jason ballads like King of Might Have Been, some country rockers like Feel, some great jazzy tunes with Lou on vocals and a lot of Robert Lamm rockers kind of like Gimme Gimme! I also hope Lee gets to sing a song or two on this one. He hasn't sang on a non christmas album since Chicago XI!
Permalink Reply by Michael Buhler on January 17, 2012 at 3:41pm I just got Stone of Sisyphus in the mail, so I'd like to see some stuff in that vein. I know "Keep the Faith" off of Robert's new album stands out too. But lots of horns for sure :)

I would love to hear more rock.....maybe even in the vein of 25 or 6 2 4 ....... and, yes, let Jason sing Jason songs.......I'd love to hear Lou cut loose on a few tunes and lots of horns......gotta have horns!!
Permalink Reply by Salvatore Lagonia on January 18, 2012 at 8:45am I agree. I was excited to hear the release of their cover of "I Can't Let Go," and couldn't help but think it sounded so much like the old Chicago. I'd love to hear something more in the Rock/Jazz root of the band and less in the adult contemporary sound they tend to fall into.

Permalink Reply by Mark Slater on January 21, 2012 at 3:09am I read an article last year about Elton John where he expressed his resignation that at this time in his career he felt that he wasn't really going to have any more mega hit singles or albums, so he could concentrate on the music that he really wanted to make. I think the band should do the same. However I would say though that the quality of songs and production values are important. I prefer an 'organic' approach and I thought some of the recent Christmas album had this, especially on the rockier tracks. The quality of the recording and production of 'On the last night of the year' was impeccable, so I would be keen to see more in this style.

Christmas/Holiday albums by established artists are a very American thing, we don't really do them so much in the UK and if I'm honest I was sceptical about this release - I don't own the other two but I've heard bits of them in stores and restaurants when I've been in the US over Christmas.
I bought O Christmas three on Amazon for £3.99 - for this price worth a try and I was pleasantly suprised. What I really liked though was the production by Phil Ramone - he brings a very organic sound - and my point is that whatever they do in future it should have great production, just like what Phil Ramone brought to the last album.

Roman numeral correction ~ for the record, it'll be "XXXIIIV" (Chicago 34).
Couldn't agree more w/ the last comment from Mark Slater about the Phil Ramone approach. Also, it's just great at this point the band has the luxury to put out the music they choose to make and the limited "overhead." Bring it on!
I think Wikipedia had something saying it was going to be a live concert album with stuff from the mid-70's. However, I take that with a grain of salt. I wouldn't mind Chicago releasing a new album and it would nice to see Jimmy & Lee write some of the new material. Jimmy has written great songs, but I was surprised he didn't write anything for "30", I know he wrote stuff on "Sisyphus" but we wrote those songs back in '93 or '94. Jason & Robert write terrific songs, but I haven't heard anythin Lou as of yet. Another cool album would be songs that have been in the vault for years and release a 12-14 song CD, or an album full of the hits but in demo form and/or the outtakes - something along the lines of the Beatles Anthology sets. It would be cool to hear the hits songs in another form.
Permalink Reply by Alison O'Rear on January 25, 2012 at 8:23pm Is anyone else wondering why Chicago was pictured with Blood Sweat & Tears and Toto on the back of the last CTA Fan Club newsletter? A few years ago Robert had asked the fans what musicians and bands they would recommend Chicago collaborate with for a possible future album. Curious if this idea is still brewing.
