Chicago The Band Music Community
The Official Chicago Fan Network
One of the things I love about this site is that you come into contact with a vast range of people from from across the world. With regular contributions, mostly from friends in the US, you become aware of some of the other bands that people also enjoy. Sometimes on the site I read rumours about the band touring with bands like Toto and BS&T. Nothing wrong with them, but they wouldn't be amongst my own personal favourites. It got me thinking about music taste, which is vastly personal and undoubtedly subjective. Chicago is my first and foremost band, they informed my musical education and outlook so that now I enjoy a range of bands past and present.
As an excercise to check out the range of tastes Chicago sits alongside in our collections and for a bit of fun, will respondents list 10 other acts of their choice in no particular order (put their country of origin) along with a guilty musical pleasure, you know a band or genre of music it's not cool to enjoy, but best done in secret! Have fun sharing and I'm sure we will see a myriad of musical tastes. Mine:
1) The Beatles (UK)
2) Oasis (UK)
3) Talk Talk (UK)
4) Big Country (UK)
5) REM (US)
6) David Bowie (UK)
7) Iggy Pop (US)
8) U2 (Ireland)
9) Coldplay (UK)
10) Kraftwerk (Germany)
My guilty pleasure: James Blunt !!!!!!!!

Permalink Reply by Mary Anderson on February 22, 2012 at 11:57am Great suggestion, Mark! These are in no particular order.
EWF (US)
Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns (US)
Doobie Brothers (US)
Bon Jovi (US)
Beach Boys (US)
Gipsy Kings (France)
U2 (Ireland)
Vertical Horizon (US)
Maroon 5 (US)
One Republic (US)
It was hard to pick just ten bands - my musical tastes have shifted back and forth over the years, so this list represents the most current and most played on my iTunes. But there are so many others I would add, if I could! It is funny that the first name that came to mind for me when you said guilty music pleasure was also James Blunt, but that was quite a while ago. So when I looked at what it might be now - Black Eyed Peas.

Permalink Reply by Brett Simpson on February 22, 2012 at 2:02pm First up I'm going to have to say I don't believe in the concept of a guilty pleasure - if you like something it's impossible to be wrong to! Anyway, mine's Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.

3. Goo-Goo Dolls
4. America

I know it's quite an assortment and most of my favorites are from times gone by. But, I'm not totally a lost cause. I'm going to see Daughtry next month. Okay, I will admit it's my 17 year old son who want to go, but I am familiar with some of the newer stuff. Still, the all-time fav is Chicago and Robert Lamm's solo work.
Mine would be
1) Yes with Jon Anderson (UK)
2) Bee Gees (UK)
3) Moody Blues (UK)
4) Jimmy Buffett (US)
5) Asia (UK)
6) Triumph (Canada)
7) Rush (Canada)
8) Roger Hodgson (UK)
9) Dennis DeYoung (US)
10) Neil Diamond (US)
Guilty pleasure: I guess John Denver, but he can fit in my top 10 too. :) Maybe Davy Jones and Monkees. ;)
I love Yes as well. It was very hard to just pick 10.

Permalink Reply by Omar DeLeon on February 23, 2012 at 6:46am There are many solo artists and bands out there that to pick my top 5, would be very difficult. However, in my IPOD and cd player, the following do receive plenty of playing time:
1) obviously- CHICAGO and related: Peter Cetera, Robert Lamm solo, HIP (Howland Imboden Project), CTA (California Transit Authority- Danny's band), Jason solo, and Bill Champlin stuff
2) Santana
3) Billy Joel
4) Burt Bacharach and related: his solo albums as well as Dionne and co.
5) The Dave Matthews Band
6) Jimmy Buffett
7) America
8) The Doobies
9) Beach Boys
10) The Beatles
Again, I can go on forever, but those are my picks...
